One of the most challenging and rewarding professions a person can choose is being an instructor/facilitator. This is because instructors are ones responsible for providing the instruction to the future generation and training them to go out into the world and make it a better place. They have the opportunity to shape their minds, build their confidence, and mold them into educated and responsible adults who will later lead us to greatness. But not everyone is cut out to be a teacher/facilitator. A good instructor must be able to communicate with students on their level, be able to provide instruction in an effective way, and genuinely care about their future. With these qualities, an instructor will have the ability to build up student confidence, create a good rapport with his/her class, and provide criticism that is not demining or discriminating. Often times, especially when a facilitator falls into a situation where he/she is being pulled in several different directions by administrators and home responsibilities, it is difficult to take the time plan effective instruction and care about student success. However, these elements are vital in the success of any instructor. Students begin to find their confidence when they have a caring and effective instructor, and they realize that they need assistance, their instructor is there to help them. Students who want to learn more should not be afraid to approach and question an instructor. After all, if a student feels intimidated about now knowing a concept and is afraid to ask a question, it could set him/her up for failure. This would be a tragedy. Clearly, once students realize that their facilitator truly cares for them, their learning abilities become endless.
A good instructor also has high expectations of his/her students, and through these expectations, encourage them to succeed. I personally tell my students to never settle for second best and to reach for the stars. I will not accept anything less than their best effort. Instructors with poor attitudes lead their students down a dark path that goes nowhere. Therefore, it is very important to be encouraging and supportive of all students in order to assist in their learning process.I hope these notes and references help!
