How would you define character, integrity, and conscience? Look up the definitions and apply the meaning or characteristic of each as it pertains to you. Do not cut and paste your answers. The definition of character is the aggregate nature of persons actions, traits, and features responsible for developing this persons personality. Integrity is the adherence to moral and ethical principles while a persons conscience is shaped by their ability to have empathy and cognizance understanding of their actions in regard to how they affect themselves and others. My character is one of religion and pragmatic thought processes where I view situations in detail before acting. Once deciding to act, I act with integrity in relation to my religious principles that adhere to a certain moral code. My conscience is clear and concise and I reflect upon how my decisions will impact myself and others. 2. Look up the general terms of Ethics and Workplace Ethics. As you read through them, explain in your own words, what this means to you. Have you or someone else you know ever been put in a position to make an unethical decision?Ethics are the ability to adhere to truthfulness, civility, and honesty while engaging in workplace duties. In my own words this represents the capability to develop a moral and just response to any workplace issue while also providing the most optimal and reliable work. In my workplace I have known people who have been tasked with the prospect of making an unethical decision, but have chosen to refrain from engaging in these practices. A decision that would be an example of possibly engaging in what would be considered unethical workforce practices would be the request to file a fraudulent timesheet for a friend who was not working the day that he or she claims to have worked. If you are aware of this and the company does not know that the person was not working, this would be an unethical choice to help perpetrate a fraud against the company on behalf of your friend. 3. List three (3) behaviors that you consider to be unethical and why. Testilying: This is the use of false testimony by police officers in court to convict defendants. This is unethical because the police know that they are not telling the truth, but do so to obtain a conviction.Racial Profiling: This unethical tactic allows police to use the color of a persons skin to initiate a traffic stop. This is unethical because it is quintessentially racism at its worst. Obviously racism is unethical for police or any other employees.3. What are your thoughts about leaders and managers having the responsibility to guide you and others in an environment that would support and encourage all to practice good and acceptable work ethics?
Leaders must lead by example regarding ethical behavior. If a leader is unethical he or she is giving the green light for employees to engage in unethical behavior as well. Therefore, it is up to leaders to ensure that their behavior is ethical thus setting the example and paradigm for their workers.4. How would you address a conflict situation concerning a co-worker, a supervisor or a family member and explain what value you place on the outcome and is it worth it to you to deteriorate or even sacrifice a long established relationship for the sake of that outcome? If a conflict situation emerges I would play the role of peace broker listening attentively to both sides of the equation. In conflict resolution its imperative to first listen to all sides and then attempt to find common ground. The value placed on the outcome would be determined upon the severity of the conflict. If the problem is an issue that is serious and the person refusing to change or reach a resolution I would have no problem sacrificing the relationship to maintain my moral and ethical code regardless if it were family members or a supervisor.
