What 3 topics interested you most from the book?The book The Physics of Star Trek Rev. 7 touched upon several interesting ideas including inertial dampers, warp speed, and time travel. I will give a brief summary of these ideas and why they are interesting for me. Inertial dampers figuratively would be systems used on starships that enable the ship to counter the effects of rapid acceleration and deceleration of a starship. This is accomplished by giving the starship to sustain and absorb the natural inertia of a vessel while moving through space or under attack from rival vessels. This is an interesting concept because it has direct correlations to warp speed, another concept within the book that will be discussed. Without inertial dampers, warp speed would not be capable because rapid acceleration would kill the crew instantly. Inertia dampers should be activated by default with the crew possessing the capability to enable, disable, and configure their strength manually. If disabled they should have the capability of be reactivated by resetting the inertial dampening field base at three-zero and re-initializing the dampers. Figuratively speaking the inertial dampers should have automatic bypasses that are triggered when the system is disabled. The usage of warp drive, or war speed that would be faster than the speed of light could initiate time travel in a hypothetical sense. Spaceships that have warp speed capabilities can travel at speeds greater than that of light by many orders of magnitude giving the ships the ability to circumvent the problem of time dilation. The warp speed creates an artificial bubble of normal space surrounding the spacecraft instead of permitting instantaneous travel between two points. These ships possess the capability to interact with objects in normal space a result of their resistance to time dilation. Warp drive is not an entirely fictional concept because of models called Alcubierre drive that were formulated by physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994. This hypothetical solution for faster-than-light travel FLT found calculations that dictated prohibitive amounts of energy would be needed yet if the shape of the warp drive was changed it would drastically reduce the energy needed. The summation of this concept is that it can be feasibly done with NASA conducting preliminary research on this actual technology. All of these concepts lead to the conclusion of time travel. Time travel is theoretically possible because of time warp and the fact that objects travelling at high speeds age more slowly than stationary objects. Therefore, if NASA ever creates the technology necessary to travel into outer space and return, moving close to light speed, the person returning to Earth could travel thousands of years into Earths future. Today, we know that time travel need not be confined to myths, science fiction, Hollywood movies, or even speculation by theoretical physicists. Time travel is possible. For example, an object traveling at high speeds ages more slowly than a stationary object. This means that if you were to travel into outer space and return, moving close to light speed, you could travel thousands of years into the Earths future.The feasibility of time travel began with Newtons mathematical definition of how motion changes with time. This concept showed that force that causes apples to fall is the same force driving planetary motions and producing tides. Gravity seemed to operate instantaneously at a distance and with Einsteins general theory of relativity changed from a force to the movement of matter along the shortest space in a curved spacetime. Therefore, these concepts accentuated the probability of time travel occurring as a result of the physics behind the science.
